What do Toxocara canis look like?
canis is dioecious, having morphology distinctly different between the male and female. Male worms measure 4 to 6 cm (0.75" to 1.5"), typically smaller than female worms who measure at 6.5–15 cm (2.5" to 15"). The male's posterior end is curved ventrally and the tail is bluntly pointed.
Can you see toxocariasis?
Ocular toxocariasis: Ocular toxocariasis occurs when Toxocara larvae migrate to the eye. Symptoms and signs of ocular toxocariasis include vision loss, eye inflammation or damage to the retina. Typically, only one eye is affected.
What does Toxocara Cati look like?
Adult worms are localised in the gut of the host. In adult cats, the infection – which is called toxocariasis – is usually asymptomatic. However, massive infection in juvenile cats can be fatal. Feline roundworms are brownish-yellow to cream-colored to pink and may be up to 10 cm in length.
How do I get rid of Toxocara?
Visceral toxocariasis can be treated with antiparasitic drugs such as albendazole or mebendazole. Treatment of ocular toxocariasis is more difficult and usually consists of measures to prevent progressive damage to the eye.
